Following in the footsteps of Sotatsu, Kōrin, and his brother Kenzan, are known for firmly establishing the "rinpa" school of painting, creating some of its most representaitve works. "Rinpa" is an abbreviation consisting of the last syllable from "Kōrin" with the word for school (派 ha).
